This paper is the beginning of an ongoing market survey of the of the so-called Ravensara essential oils and their comparison to Cinnamomum species oils. There is much confusion regarding the different botanical and trade names, the different parts of the tree that are distilled for essential oils (leaf, bark, wood, branches) and their relevant chemical compositions. These obscure plants grow in one of the remotest parts of the world, Madagascar, where other exotic essential oils come from, such as ylang, ylang. Botanically, Ravensara is a genus of Lauraceae family and is endemic to Madagascar.
