At last someone has given us valuable, well-researched material in the most important area of all - safety. This manual has been designed so that the results of continuing investigations and new worldwide research can be included and a system is being established which will give everyone access to this information as it becomes available. Book owners will register and can receive future updates and new sections. At present, the four sections (Sets 1-4, see below) contain referenced safety information critical to oral and dermal application of essential oils. All the information presented here is based on the published scientific investigation of plant extracts. The author may not always agree with the methods some scientists have used to obtain the information. Nevertheless, it is the best data available at the time of writing. It seems that a lot of the information out there is not necessarily wrong, but misconstrued and handed down repeating the errors without anyone checking out all the facts or learning more about such subjects as plants, chemistry, physiology. In addition, many claims of toxicity , as well as systemic action and skin effects are also based on hearsay. Many essential oils on the market have not even been formally tested for toxicity and skin effects. This is a must have book for any serious practicing aromatherapist, as well as researchers, aromatherapy educators and anyone generally interested in or now using essential oils. The safety in working with essential oils cannot be underestimated, and this user-friendly manual contains information that has been needed for a long time. Excellent for beginners, to get started on the right (safe) path, the manual is even more useful for "old hands" in the trade who have become jaded and need a new spurt of documented information. "With the increasing popularity of Aromatherapy, it was felt that a compilation of available scientific data on the contraindications and toxicity of the oils for both oral and even more appropriately - topical application, had become vital."
Sets sold all in one 3-ring binder: Martin Watt, Certified Phytotherapist, is a fully qualified Medical Herbalist who has spent many years studying the scientific literature which is available on the many uses of aromatic oils. This highly technical information has been collated and simplified in order to make available an easy-reference system suited to the needs of the many people who use aromatic oils in their work. The series is mainly intended for Aromatherapists, Beauty Therapists, Herbalists, Nursing Staff, Perfumers, Researchers, Product Manufacturers and anyone who is trained or training in the use of these materials.
